Children under the age of 12 are not permitted at Kahanda Kanda. The reason for this is two-fold – firstly there are a number of steep drops from some of the terraces, and secondly, we pride ourselves in providing a haven of peace and tranquillity – a scene not best suited for young persons!

The sun shines year-round on KK. In general, the weather in Sri Lanka hovers usually around 80ºF. Days can feel very humid - some would call it a 'bad hair day' - and nights remain comfortably warm. Just prior to the monsoon towards the end of April, the days and nights do get even a little warmer.

One of the great joys of KK's hilltop location is that there is nearly always a cooling breeze. All bedrooms are fully air conditioned, so for those rare hot nights, you can be assured of a good night's sleep.

KK is a year round destination. The driest part of the year falls between December and April. The monsoon brings daily cloud-bursts June/July and October/November but rarely is there a full day of rain. Thankfully, the country house ambience at KK means there's nothing better than curling up to read a good book, play backgammon or scrabble, all in indulgent comfort while the rain feeds the surrounding soil.

Breakfast is included in the quoted price, but lunch and dinner will be charged separately.

Most guests come by private car as part of a broader exploration around Sri Lanka. The journey time is 4 hours from Colombo, 6 from Kandy. The new Southern Highway – due to open September 2011 – should reduce the travelling time by at least 1.5 hours.

You may also take the seaplane, which lands on Koggala Lake, cutting the journey time to 45 minutes from Colombo and 55 minutes from Kandy. The KK team can assist you in arranging a private car with driver or make arrangements for the seaplane.
